Three ways to burn your candle, the right way

It's simple isn’t it? You just light the wicks, let the candle burn and then blow out the flame, right? Well, not quite. Keep on reading, as we share a few little tips that you can do to get the best life and use out of your lovely candles.

1. Trim the wick. Every. Single. Time.

For a cleaner and brighter burn, with no not-so-nice black marks on your beautiful containers, get into the habit of trimming your wicks to between 1/8 and 1/4 inches long before you light them. Cotton braided wicks which are lead-free (like ours) also have a tendency to curl, so trimming will help keep a straight, even burn

2. Get it right the first time and let the wax fully melt

This is one could perhaps be one of the (if not THE) most important factors and the focus is one the very first burn. Once your candle's burning, don't blow it out until the top layer of wax has melted all the way across (or very almost). With our nawasté candles this can take 3-4 hours. What happens when you light your candle and then diffuse it after a short period of time, is a process called tunnelling – where the wax only melts down the middle leaving lots of wax left on the outside. In short, it means less burn time and more waste.

3. Keep the flame away from moving air

Try your very best to keep your burning candle away from open windows, fans, air conditioners, or areas where people walk back and forth a lot. Moving air can disturb the flame, leading to even more un-pretty black marks on the glass.

Happy glowing fellow candle lovers!
